5 BOOKS EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD READ IN 2020

Many Christians often overlook the power that reading has on their Christian walk. Reading books centered around Christ will not only help you grow a more intimate relationship with God, but it will also deepen your understanding of the scriptures. The Bible is a very abstruse book, and that is why God has blessed us with pastors, preachers, prophets, and even books that will help us grasp his word better. When we read Christian books we give ourselves the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead. We learn more about the ways of God, we grow in intimacy with God, and we effectively lead others to God. Not to mention, many well-known men and women of God, in Christian history, were readers. They not only spent hours reading the word of God, but they also spent hours reading books that helped them understand the creator.

Below I listed 5 books EVERY Christian should read in 2020. These books have helped me live out the word of God in my life, and I truly believe that they will help you do the same.

Disclaimer: Christian books should never replace the Bible. The Bible is the greatest book EVER written and has all the knowledge you need to live a good and faithful Christian life. The books I mention below are meant for you to read along with your Bible, not replace it. If you read Christian books more than you read your Bible, then you have missed the whole point. Books centered around Christ aid in our understanding of messages, stories, and principles in the Bible. You should read these books along with your Bible to help you live a life acceptable to the King.

Okay, now that we understand the purpose of this post, let’s continue with our regularly scheduled program… 5 Books Every Christian Should Read in 2020:

1. JOHN BEVERE- BREAKING INTIMIDATION: SAY “No” WITHOUT FEELING GUILTY. BE SECURE WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF MAN

christian books

If you read my post ” The Power of Your Testimony,” then you probably remember me mentioning this book. Breaking Intimidation is a great book for any Christian struggling with intimidation. This book is also amazing for new (and old) leaders who desire to lead their sheep effectively without the fear of man. In this book, Bevere does a great job breaking down why people are intimated and even gives examples of people in the Bible who were intimidated (for example, the Prophet Elijah). He also explains how Satan capitalizes on our fear, and how this fear can affect our calling. Furthermore, this book gives you practical tips on how to overcome intimidation through Christ. Bevere dives deep into the root of all intimidation and challenges you to change certain habits in your life to overcome this spirit. If you truly want to stop fearing man and live a bold and fearless life for Jesus, then purchase this book. It changed my whole perspective on life, and I believe, without a doubt, that it will change yours too!

2. SARAH JAKES ROBERTS-LOST AND FOUND: FINDING HOPE IN THE DETOURS OF LIFE

 christian books

As you have probably heard me say a thousand times, I am a big fan of Sarah Jakes Roberts. I bought her book “Lost and found” last year after I heard her testimony on an interview. When I tell you this book spoke volumes to me, it really did. What I love the most about this book is how vulnerable Sarah is with us. She literally gives her readers an all exclusive VIP entrance into her life. She also teaches us that when we fall down we must get back up. Furthermore, she shows us that when we are lost, God in his infinite mercies is still able to find us, cleanse us, and make us pure. One of my favorite quotes from this book is “If we discuss only our victories and not our struggles, we allow others to believe that you can win a war without engaging in battle.” Chileeee if this quote doesn’t make you want to buy this book then I don’t know what else will. Trust me when I say, this book is AMAZING!

3. ROB EAGAR- DATING WITH PURE PASSION: MORE THAN RULES, MORE THAN COURTSHIP, MORE THAN A FORMULA

 christian books

Before I explain to you why this book is the bomb.com, let me first of all say that if you are in a relationship, then you and your boo need to read this book together. Second of all, if you are single, then you DEFINITELY need this book like tomorrow chileee…

“Dating with Pure Passion” was my book read for the month of April. This book taught me so much about dating principles that are not often talked about in the church. One of my favorite chapters in the book is titled “Confront counterfeit Passion: Dealing with Sexual Temptation.” When I tell yall this chapter did something to my spirit…Mmmm mmm mmm mmm. The author, Eagar, seeks to educate millennials on how to date God’s way. Instead of him telling you not to have sex, or not to watch porn, or not to masturbate, or not to go to bae’s house, he tells you that the only way to conquer sin in your life is through the Holy Spirit. You see, Christians often try to defeat sin without Christ. We try to use our own innate ability and then end up hurt and frustrated when we fail. God wants to help us stay away from the things that do not please him. We must remember that our flesh is not strong enough to beat sin. WE NEED GOD’S HELP! Rules and boundaries in dating can only go so far. You need to surrender your desires to God first and then ask him to help you overcome. This may seem like common sense to some Christians, but the truth is, many of us have not grasped this concept. This notion is especially seen in Christain relationships that have boundaries set, but for some reason, they still fall into sin.

This book also talks about being spiritually married to Jesus, knowing God’s design for sex, the importance of pre-engagement counseling, and many other topics. If you want practical, biblical, and trustworthy tips on how to date God’s way then purchase this book.

4. HEATHER ARNEL PAULSEN- EMOTIONAL PURITY

5 books every christian should read

Emotional Purity is another great book to read if you are single or in a relationship. This book talks about the importance of setting boundaries with friends of the opposite sex (especially during the “talking” phase). It also talks about enjoying your single years, contentment, and how to prepare for marriage. One of my favorite quotes from the book is “Learning to submit before “I do'” will greatly lessen the pain of learning submission after marriage.

I personally love this book because I do not often hear Christians talk about the importance of emotional purity. Yes, it is important to be physically pure, but emotional purity also plays a role in our pursuit of holiness. Furthermore, this book is pretty short, so if you are just beginning to read, definitely purchase this book because it won’t take you long to finish.

5. IN TOUCH WITH GOD DEVOTIONAL

Faith

I decided to include a devotional as one of my 5 books because I believe that devotionals help you grow your relationship with God. It is also great for new Christians who need guidance on how to read the word and on how to pray. This devotional is one of my favorites because it gives you a monthly topic to focus on. For example, for the Month of May, the topic is all about being a witness for Christ. This means that this month my devotional will focus on showing me scriptures about witnessing, explaining those scriptures, and giving me prayers to pray at the end of the devotional each day.

Again, this book is great for you if you struggle with reading and understanding the word. This book is also great if you struggle with prayer or want to make sure you stay consistent in your prayer life. This will be my third time reading this 366 day devotional, and I still love it as much as I did the first time I read it. Not to mention, I learn new things every time I read it, so definitely pick this up if you need a new devotional.

*BONUS*: SARAH YOUNG-40 DAYS WITH JESUS CELEBRATING HIS PRESENCE

Faith books

I decided to include this bonus book for anyone looking for a short devotional to start out with. Getting to know Christ intimately takes time and devotion. Remember that all you need to do is keep putting in effort daily and God will reveal himself to you. Even if you are not seeing results immediately, do not give up. The one who quits too quickly always ends up missing out.

This 40-day devotional is written as if Jesus is speaking to you directly. It will draw you nearer to God and remind you that Jesus is always with you. This devotional is also great to read while fasting. It literally helps you focus on God and block out all outside noise. I just love it!
