10 WARDROBE ESSENTIALS THAT NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE

When it comes to building an essential wardrobe, it is important to have items that can be worn year-round. I know it’s tempting to buy the latest fashion trend and fill your closet with items all the fashion gurus are wearing, but before you make a purchase, sit down and ask yourself some serious questions… “Am I really going to wear this for years to come? Will I wear this more than once? Can this item go with multiple things in my closet?” If the answer to these questions are NO, then you probably should not buy it.

Some of the most stylish and fashionable people online only have basic items in their closet. They fool you into thinking that they own all these clothes when in reality, they just know how to wear the same thing different ways. The days are gone when you spend money on clothes just because your favorite celebrity or “Instagrammer” is wearing it. You need to be intentional about what you buy and where you buy it.

Another thing I want to mention is that it may take you time to build your essential wardrobe. It took me about 2 years to build mine, because I didn’t want to buy everything at once. My style was also evolving as I was aging. I intentionally gave myself time to figure out what I liked and where I liked to shop. I also didn’t mind spending more money on my clothes because I knew that these were items that would last me years (I still don’t play about them sales though).

Additionally, when building an essential wardrobe do not forget to buy ALL your essentials in basic colors like black, white, nude, and gray. It’s okay to buy clothing items in other colors, which I still do, but I make sure to have my basic colors in stock first. Not to mention, neutral colors make you look more expensive and put-together.

Below I listed 10 Wardrobe essentials that never go out of style. Whether its spring, summer, fall, or winter, these essentials are guaranteed to carry you through the seasons.

1. THE WHITE BUTTON-UP:

Since my thumbnail is of me wearing a white button-up, I might as well start off with this basic. White button-ups are great layering pieces that automatically make you look stylish. They are classics that I believe will never go out of style. They are also great layering pieces for the fall and winter season.

2. THE BLAZER

Blazers are a great way to elevate any outfit. My favorite blazer at the moment is this shoulder pad black blazer I wore HERE . If you want to take your outfit from basic to stylish, definitely add a blazer.

3. THE JEAN JACKET

Jean jackets are timeless pieces that will never go out of style. I have so many different variations of jean jackets in my closet. I have a cropped one, a long-line one, a regular length one, and even a black one. You probably don’t need this many jean jackets in your wardrobe, but I’m a jean jacket lover soooo….yeah lol. The best place I have found to buy Jean jackets is T.J. maxx, Ross, and Target. All my jean jackets are from these stores and have lasted me over 2 years, if not more. I also like my jean jackets to be over-sized, so if you like that vibe, buy your jackets 1 or 2 sizes bigger.

4. TANK-TOP DRESSES

Tank top-dresses are super versatile. I love the relaxed vibe these types of dresses give, and I love how easy and effortless they look during the spring and summer months. I have had the tank top dress in the picture below for over 5 years, and it is still in good condition.

5. BLACK JEANS

Black jeans are a classic that you most definitely need in your wardrobe. You can wear black jeans with literally everything. You can also dress them up or down. I like wearing skinny or straight leg black jeans the most. The one I am wearing below is from a boutique in Atlanta, but you can find black jeans literally everywhere.

6. MOM/BOYFRIEND JEANS

To be honest, I really do not know the difference between mom jeans and boyfriend jeans, but I do know that they instantly elevate your look. Not to mention, if you have belly fat, leftover baby weight, or just ate a little too much one day, these jeans do a great job at hiding those imperfections.

7. BODYSUITS

Bodysuits are definitely a basic you need in your closet. What I like about bodysuits is you can layer them during the fall and winter months or wear them by alone in the spring and summer months. They also make your outfit look seamless since you don’t have to worry about tucking in anything. My favorite bodysuits at the moment are the halterneck bodysuits from ZARA. I don’t have much to say about them because they literally speak for themselves. You can also find good quality bodysuits from Ross or T.J.maxx.

8. BLACK PURSE/BAG

Everyone needs a black purse/ bag because just like the black jeans I mentioned earlier, they go with everything. Some of my favorite brands I like to buy purses from are Micheal Kors, Calvin Klein, Prada, and even Shein. The best advice I could give you when buying a purse is to buy one that will last you YEARS! It is okay to spend a little extra money on something that will last you 10 years vs. 10 months.

9. GOOD QUALITY NECKLACE

Owning a necklace that is good quality and will last a long time is essential for my jewelry lovers. There is definitely nothing wrong with buying cheaper more affordable jewelry, as I love them, but I also make sure to have pieces that will last me a long time. The necklace I am wearing below is from a black-owned Christian company called “Blessed Afrique Boutique.” What I love about this necklace and company is that they represent 2 things that I absolutely love: Jesus and Africa. If you are interested in purchasing this necklace or any necklace on their website, you can use my code “joycechekwa” at check-out to save you some mula (I’m always trying to save you guys some money).

10. WHITE TRAINERS

White trainers are a great way to add chic-ness (if that is a word) to your outfit. I wear my white trainers with suits, dress pants, jeans, and even dresses. They take any look to the next level.
